It extends along the banks of the Ramganaga River. This is one of the richest areas for the typical big mammals of northern India. Popularly known as the tiger country, the park was established in 1936 by the governor Sir Malcom Hailey and named Hailey National Park. After independence it came to be known as Ramganga National Park. RanthamboreRanthambore National Park is situated 14 kms from Sawai Madhopur. Two newly created sanctuaries - Kaila Devi on the north east and Sawai Man singh on south are now also part of the park. The park derives its name from Ranthambore Fort situated within its precincts. The fort is surrounded by the Vindhyas and Aravalis, amidst vast arid denuded tracts of Rajasthan. It encompasses an area of 932 sq.km is the subtropical inner terai lowlands of South - Central Nepal and it was known as a hunting reserve until 1950. It is considered among the best wildlife parks in Asia. Chitwan is synonymous with tigers and Rhinos. There are a total of 43 species of birds found here. Elephant rides to view the wildlife are most popular. The boat trips in Chitwan along the Rapti or Narayani rivers are the most peaceful way of experiencing the wildlife and the surrounding scener. |
